UNIT 7: LONDON'S STREETS

Attractions and Monuments


London Eye: situated on the banks of the River Thames in Central London. The ticket cost £17.50. (£1.00=1.12943€)Visitors are treated to a gently paced half-hour ride in space age capsules holding 25 people each.
British Museum houses a vast collection of world art and artefacts and is free to all visitors. It opens every day from 10.00 to 17.30, and it opens later on Thursday and Friday.
National Gallery houses a rich collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900 in its home on Trafalgar Square.
The Tower of London: is a historic fortress and scheduled monument in central London. The ceremony of the keys at the Tower of London has been a nightly event for the last 700 years. Every night the Tower is locked up by the Chief Yeoman Warder at exactly 21:53.
Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British monarch. The Changing of the Guard takes place in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace at 11.30 every day in summer, every other day in winter, and lasts about 45 minutes.

WRITING: MY FAVOURITE ANIMAL

EXERCISE EXAMPLE: Dolphins

Dolphins are marine mammals that are closely related to whales and porpoises. They vary in size from 1.2 m and 40 kg, up to 9.5 m and 10 tonnes.  Dolphins are among the most intelligent animals and their often friendly appearance and seemingly playful attitude have made them popular in human culture.The tail fin, called the fluke, is used for propulsion, while the pectoral fins together with the entire tail section provide directional control. The dorsal fin, in those species that have one, provides stability while swimming.
